Hope Library does not charge overdue fines on Hope Library books. In lieu of fines, we ask that you make a small donation to the library in the donation box located on the circulation counter.
The library does charge fines on all audio/visual materials, such as dvds, videos, cds, audiobooks and children's audio kits. Fines on these materials are $1.00 per day.
Although Hope Library does not charge fines on Hope Library books, if you receive a book from another library, late charges may be applied. Each library in Rhode Island sets its own policies regarding overdue fines. Books received through interlibrary loans are subject to the fines set by the owning library. If you have any fines in excess of $5.00, it will place a block on your account. To remove the block, you may pay your fines online while logged into your account, or you may pay at any public library.
Items can be renewed online by accessing your account information located in the " My Account Login" at the top of every page of our website. Login to your account by typing in the barcode numbers on your library card, or by calling Hope Library (401) 821-7910 during library hours. Please note that you will need your library card to renew items using any of the above renewal services. Items that have no HOLDS will be renewed automatically.
Items that have HOLDS by other patrons are not renewable. Also, dvds, cds, videos and audiobooks are non-renewable.
How To Request Items
Items can be placed on HOLD by clicking on the "Library Catalog" button at the top of each page on our website. You can look up an item by Title, Author, Keyword, Series, or Subject. To request the item, click on "Request" to the right of the item information. You will be prompted to enter your library barcode and select your pick-up location. You may also call Hope Library during business hours and we can place the request for you. Items may be requested from any library in the state, including college libraries.
Lost and/or Damaged Items
You are responsible for any lost or damaged items checked out on your library card. A replacement fee for full value of the item will be assessed on your account. Borrowing privileges at all public libraries are revoked until restitution is made. The library DOES NOT accept replacement items by the patron. Lost items may be paid for at the library, or online.
Returning Library Items
Library materials from Hope Library may be returned at any public library in Rhode Island. Books returned when the library is closed may be placed in our bookdrop, located in front of the library. Please note that all dvds, cds, and audiobooks on cd must be returned inside the library or be returned in a dedicated Audio/Visual drop box. If an AV item is damaged after being placed in a bookdrop (instead of an AV Drop) you will be charged full replacement value for that item.
You can download books, movies, and music from E-Zone, by clicking on the "EZone Downloadable Books" button at the top of every page on our website.
